Community Library Program
Established in November 2021, Snehjori’s Community Library is designed to nurture children’s curiosity, reading habits, and critical thinking skills through a wide range of children’s literature. The library serves as a free, safe, and inclusive space where children and the larger community can learn, access information, and grow together.
Our core interventions include read-aloud sessions, storytelling, book talks, and theatre-based activities, which not only enhance reading but also encourage imagination, expression, and dialogue among children.
Currently, the library has enrolled over 465 members and functions as a resource hub for the community, providing access to knowledge and learning opportunities. With a collection of more than 3,000 books spanning diverse themes and genres, the library creates an environment where children and community members alike can explore, discover, and thrive.
Snehjori's School Library Program
Snehjori’s school library program began in 2022 to address gaps in literacy. Currently, we work with four government primary schools, providing classroom libraries that offer children access to diverse, curriculum-aligned content. The program aims to foster a love for reading and improve literacy skills through engaging materials and activities. Around 300 children benefit from this initiative on a regular basis, gaining opportunities for independent reading, comprehension development, and exposure to a wide range of stories and learning resources.
Skill-Based Education Program
Snehjori engages community women through our Skill-Based Education Program, empowering them with practical, income-generating skills such as candle making, stitching, hoop art, pickle-making, and handmade crafts. Many of these women, who have migrated to the city with their families, work as domestic helpers and face limited voice and agency in male-dominated households. Through skill development, we encourage self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and confidence, breaking cycles of disempowerment that affect both them and their daughters.
To further support their growth, we provide platforms like fundraising events and online marketplaces to showcase and sell their products. This not only generates income but also contributes to their children’s education and improved quality of life, creating long-term impact for the entire family.
